The Debate
Holly Stevenson
For Frieze Sculpture 2023, Holly Stevenson will present 'The Debate', the artist's largest ceramic installation to date.
The work consists of two life-size ducks positioned in conversation over an oversized half-boiled egg. Depending on how the work is approached, the figures look at a complete egg with the potential for hatching or one half of a sliced hard boiled egg.
To coincide with the presentation, we are hosting two 'Egg Act’ events, performed by Holly Stevenson and Huma Kabakci, as part of the official Frieze Public Programme. Vegan eggs will be served to pre-registered guests.

Artist Biography
During her History of Art degree from Glasgow University Holly Stevenson (b. Norfolk, UK) wrote a dissertation on Roman souvenirs from the 1600 to the present day. With the generous help of the Stanley Picker Trust she went on to achieve a Fine Art MA from Chelsea College of Art and Design after which she gained an MFI Flat Time House Graduate Award, supported by the John Latham Foundation. Works from her ongoing psychoanalytic project ‘Sigmund Freud’s Ashtray’ have been shown nationally and in the recent show Body Poetics, her practice was paired with that of Louise Bourgeoise. Stevenson participated in Laboratorio Piramide, which concluded with a show at Richard Saltoun, Rome. She completed a ceramic public art commission for The CoLAB’s Artist’s Garden, and had her first solo exhibition with Sid Motion Gallery in 2022. For an offsite project for Sid Motion Gallery Stevenson substituted JW Anderson’s shoes for ceramic ones in his Brewer Street shop. Stevenson will have a solo show with Pi Artworks in 2024.
