Factory to Palace
Paul Housley
18 Nov – 23 Dec 2016
The gallery is delighted to present a solo exhibition of new paintings and sculptural works by the British artist Paul Housley.
Housley is known for incorporating art historical references into his work and for the melding of the traditional genres of portraiture, still life and landscape. Old Masters act both as a talisman and an artistic challenge. The image of the factory in his latest work pays homage to the artist’s early background (the industrial landscape of Greater Manchester). It can also be read as a paean to the studio, where things are made and the work ethic is highly prized.
Paul Housley spoke in conversation with author and art market commentator Melanie Gerlis on Wednesday 7th December, at 7pm.
