Sid Motion Gallery is pleased to announce a two-day exhibition by Maria Mahfooz and Hugo Hutchins which is open on the 28th and 29th August as part of the South Bermondsey Art Trail.

The exhibition will consist of a video work exploring online dating apps and the profiles encountered from the perspectives of a Muslim person using Muzmatch and from a Tinder user.
Artist Biographies
 
Maria Mahfooz (b. 1995) graduated from BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in 2019. Her recent solo exhibitions include ‘It’s not easy being green’, Leave of Absence Gallery, London (2020). Group exhibitions and screenings include: ‘Offsite project, Google Maps Residency’, with Sara Gulamali (2020); ‘Behind the Zines’, Rabbits Road Press, London (2019); ‘The Age of New Babylon’, Lethaby Gallery, Central Saint Martins, (2018); ‘Normal to Dissent’, Lethaby Gallery, Central Saint Martins, (2018); ‘Metaphonica IV: The House of Beyond Sound’, The Street, Central Saint Martins, (2018); Tate Exchange, Tate Modern, (2017, 2018, 2019). With fellow Central Saint Martins alumni Hugo Hutchins, Mahfooz co-curated and featured in ‘BABEL’, Willesden Galley, London (2019). In 2019 she was the recipient of the Sid Motion Gallery Prize as well as being selected as a resident in the Associate Studio Programme, and is a Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2020 artist. She has been selected for ‘Spread The Virus Vol. 3’, an online exhibition curated by DATEAGLE ART with guest co-curator Zaiba Jabbar from Hervisions.

Hugo Hutchins (b. 1995) graduated from BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in 2019 and is currently studying MA Sculpture at the Royal College of Art. His recent exhibitions include: ‘In The Withdrawing Room’, Online (2020); ‘RCA WiP Show’, Royal College of Art (2020); ‘The Great Oxygenation Event’, residency and exhibition at Standpoint Gallery (2020); ‘Club Tropicana’, Dadapost, Berlin (2019); Tate Exchange, Tate Modern, (2017, 2018, 2019). With fellow Central Saint Martins alumni Maria Mahfooz, Hutchins co-curated and featured in ‘BABEL’, Willesden Galley, London (2019).

The South Bermondsey Art Trail (Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August 2020) is a 2-day event of open studios, exhibitions and screenings celebrating the creatives working in South Bermondsey.Organised by Sid Motion Gallery and Charlie Billingham, the trail aims to celebrate the local area and the brilliant creatives working within it.

All visitors are welcome to visit between 12-6pm both days. Start the Art Trail at Sid Motion Gallery, to view Maria Mahfooz and Hugo Hutchins’ exhibition, and to collect a map to see all the artists participating. A full list of participants will be announced soon.
