Sid Motion Gallery is pleased to present its first solo exhibition by Damien Meade, generously hosted by Sadie Coles HQ.

For this exhibition, titled ‘Sseed’, Meade has produced two new paintings, which are his first large-scale works since 1995.

‘Sseed’, a precondition… or a premonition – of what has been see’d. A beginning, or an ending. Three figures in each painting, forms in 'S’-like contortions that rise from stalks like mutated growths. The seen, or the seers.

Since 2007 Meade has been making paintings of things he has made in clay. This exhibition continues that mode of enquiry, but yet it marks a shift in his work - a recalibration of scale, surface, and subject, and a break with the portrait genre and the formless clay abstractions for which he has become known.
